The Veneto Region has joined ECRN, adding one of Italy's leading manufacturing regions to the network of European regions working together on the future of the chemical industry

With its membership, Veneto will take part in ECRN’s exchange of experience and good practice between regions and contribute to the European debate on industrial policy for the chemical sector and its value chains.

A manufacturing region with strong chemical value chains

Veneto’s economy rests on a diverse manufacturing base with a strong presence of small and medium-sized enterprises. Across its industrial value chains, the chemical sector plays a significant role, not least because of its close links with many other industries.

This makes the region a natural fit for ECRN, whose members share the challenge of keeping chemical production competitive while managing the green and digital transitions.

Statement by Regional Minister Massimo Bitonci

Massimo Bitonci, Veneto’s Regional Minister for Economic Development, Research and Innovation, and Investment Attraction, welcomed the decision:

“Veneto’s membership of the European Chemical Regions Network is an opportunity to strengthen the European dimension of regional policies supporting industry and the competitiveness of our production system.

Veneto has a diverse manufacturing system, characterised by a strong presence of small and medium-sized enterprises and by value chains in which the chemical sector plays an important role, not least because of its links with many industrial sectors.

Joining ECRN means being able to share experience and good practice with other European regions, contribute to the debate on industrial policy, and strengthen the ability of our territories to tackle together the transformations affecting the chemical sector and its value chains.

We are therefore pleased to begin this collaboration and to make Veneto’s experience available to the network, with the aim of helping to build a more competitive, innovative and sustainable European industry.”

Welcome to the network

ECRN warmly welcomes Veneto and looks forward to working with the Region’s institutions, businesses and research community. Veneto’s experience with SME-driven value chains will enrich the network’s work on industrial policy, and members will have new opportunities to cooperate on shared challenges in the transition of the chemical sector.
