Self-Assessment Tool to promote sustainable chemical production in all regions

Self-Assessment Tool to promote sustainable chemical production in all regions

The European Commission has officially launched a Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to help regions determine their readiness level for investment in sustainable chemical production. The tool identifies 3 alternative raw materials (Biomass from agriculture and forestry, waste and effluent gases like CO and CO2) to produce chemicals in a sustainable manner. The SAT is an online questionnaire, which provides a first evaluation of the situation in a specific region. The analysis considers 8 key factors (KF) and once the questionnaire is completed, the SAT elaborates a spider diagram and a report with the main conclusions and recommendations. The tool was developed by the Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption (CIRCE) within the project “6 Model Demonstrator Regions for Sustainable Chemical Production” and it was first presented to the public during the European Sustainable Chemicals Support Service (ESCSS) final conference – an Initiative of the European Commission and ECRN.  Now available for all European regions, the SAT aims to bring a fundamental contribution to regional efforts in the field of Bio- and Circular economy. The European Commission, ECRN and CIRCE combine efforts to promote the tool across Europe.
