ECRN participated in the S3Forum in Barcelona, the key event for all stakeholders involved in smart specialization. The European Commission had long recognized that research and innovation were crucial for sustainable and smart economic transformation.

New challenges were the primary concern of national and regional policymakers, and S3 aimed to play a vital role by offering responses rooted in research, innovation, and targeted territorial approaches.

The S3 Forum addressed both the strategic and regulatory aspects of S3 policy-making. Discussions on the evolution of Smart Specialisation and its capacity to tackle emerging challenges were framed against the key structural elements of S3.
