What is the Working Group on Chemical Industry?
In February 2023, the Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs set up the ’Working Group on Chemical Industry’ as a sub-group to the High-Level Expert Group on Energy Intensive Industries, with a focus on the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry.
The aim of the WG is to outlining the actions needed to achieve the green and digital transition and increased resilience of the Chemical Industry, which is part of the Energy Intensive Industries Ecosystems, as set out in the 2021 EU updated Industrial Strategy1.The publication of the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry is followed by the co-implementation of the actions needed for the twin transition of the chemical industry by Member States, the chemical industry itself, the EU and all interested parties. The sub-group shall aim to facilitate discussions and cooperation with stakeholders on the co-implementation of the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry and shall operate permanently.
The Working Group’s tasks shall be to:
- to assist DG GROW in the co-implementation of the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry;
- to foster cooperation between the members of the sub-group and DG GROW on the actions needed for the twin transition and increased resilience of the Chemical Industry;
- to advice DG GROW on data gathering for monitoring and evaluating the twin transition of the Chemical Industry.
