Multistakeholder Conversation On The Bioeconomy Potential In The European Regions

June 26, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm CEST

Realising the bioeconomy potential in the European regions: policy and practice

In 2017, the European Committee of the Regions named ECRN an example of a network that makes a “major contribution to expanding the bioeconomy”, in its Opinion “The local and regional dimension of the bioeconomy and the role of regions and cities”. Since then, ECRN has worked continuously with its member regions and other partners to contribute to the potential of the regional bioeconomies and to highlight the need of cross-sectorial and -regional cooperation in the bioeconomy.

On 26 June, ECRN organises yet another multi-stakeholder event onRealising the bioeconomy potential in European regions: policy and practice” in the Representation of the Lombardy Region to the EU in Brussels, with the participation of Jácinth Horváth (HU/PES), Member of the Committee of the Regions. We are pleased to invite you to join us there!

At this event, Mr. Jácinth Horváth will present the most recent Opinion of Committee of the Regions on the topic “A sustainable bioeconomy for Europe: strengthening the connection between economy, society and the environment” while inputs from guest speakers from other EU institutions will add to a complete picture of the current Bioeconomy framework on EU level.

Likewise, speakers from different policy and industry domains will present and share their knowledge and experience in 2 following panels. We have invited policy makers, project leaders, companies and cluster representatives from different geographical locations in order to address the topic in a comprehensive manner and connect sectors and stakeholders. We will tackle questions such as how is the bioeconomy unfolding in different regions, what are the specifics and specializations that make the bioeconomy applications suitable for regional industries, and how stakeholders are engaged. Industry representatives will then look at how to step up the developments towards bioeconomy – what will be the demand on innovation, funding and governments. We will contemplate on how the bioeconomy create solutions for both the economy and the environment and how it contributes to regional sustainable growth.

You can have look at the draft agenda.
