ECRN has been selected as part of the first circle of core members of the Just Transition Platform (JTP) Working Group on Chemicals. The Working Group will act as a forum for exchanging and developing practical solutions to ensure that the decarbonisation of the chemical sector happens in a fair way.
Established by the European Commission in 2020, the Just Transition Platform (JTP) aims to provide technical and advisory support to European regions that are heavily dependent on fossil fuels and help them access the funding available through the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM).
As part of the JTP, DG REGIO launched a public call for applications to become members of four working groups. Three working groups will focus on specific carbon-intensive industries, namely cement, steel, and chemicals. The fourth one on horizontal stakeholder strategy will have a more general and cross-cutting scope, that is identifying good practices to engage all relevant stakeholders in the transition.
Each working group will have three circles of members (core members, close observers, other stakeholders) with different levels of engagement into the group’s activities. As part of the first circle, ECRN will actively participate in shaping and performing the work of the group, contributing to the green transition of the chemical sector and making the voice of chemical regions heard at European level.
