Committee of the Regions Opinion on EU Industrial Strategy praises the benefits of regional networks referring to ECRN as an example

Today, the Committee of the Regions adopted its Opinion – A European strategy for industry: the role and perspective of regional and local authorities, expressing the perspective of regional and local authorities.

ECRN is honoured that the rapporteur Heinz Lehmann (DE/EPP), member of the Saxony regional parliament, gives ECRN as an example for a regional network that “can boost a region’s image as a centre for innovation and prevent emigration, shortages of skilled labour, and a small-scale economy”.

ECRN reaffirms its objectives to promote regional aspects of

the chemical industry and industrial policy on a European level. Industrial policy is of key importance in building a successful, sustainable economy, and European regions are a crucial element in achieving industrial prosperity. The Committee of the Regions also stresses “the centrality of regions and regional ecosystems, where the dialogue between SMEs, universities and research centres and local authorities is conducted effectively”.

The Opinion was officially voted in plenary today, 23.03.2018. The final version of the text will be available in the following days.
