As part of the EU sustainable energy week (EUSEW 2021), the EU Sustainable Energy Awards recognize outstanding individuals and projects for their innovation in energy efficiency and renewables. There are four categories: Engagement; Innovation; Woman in energy; Young energy trailblazer. In addition, the public vote will assign the Citizens’ Award to one of the projects competing in the first two categories (Engagement and Innovation).

The vote is now open until Friday 22 October and the winners will be announced on 25 October during the Awards Ceremony.

Among the six candidates for the Citizens’ Award there is the PERFORM project. The project is funded by Horizon 2020 and developed by a consortium led by TNO Delft (Zuid-Holland), the largest fully independent Research, Development and Consultancy organization in the Netherlands.

PERFORM will reduce the environmental impact of the chemical industry through a multi-level approach targeting:

• The shift from carbon-based to bio-based feedstock, which is locally-sourced and renewable.
• More efficient industrial processes.
• The electrification of the chemical industry and the use of renewable energy.

Furthermore, the consortium is also developing a flexible PowerPlatform pilot plant, which will remain available to research institutions and companies even after the end of the project to foster continuous innovation.
